Scotland Digital Treasure Hunt Clue 2 Answers

Clue 2 Answers

Below are the questions with answers in red.

1. From this city scan south west (use the compass in the bottom right corner of the screen to check you are going in the right direction) following the river, stop at the first large loch (Scottish word for lake).

You are looking for the loch directly to the south west of Inverness = Loch Ness.

2. On this loch look for a settlement whose name could be defined as:

MILITARY BASE + ROMAN EMPEROR

The name of the town is Fort Augustus which is on the south western tip of the loch.

3. Go here and follow these directions:

  • Make sure you are in 2D mode by clicking the 2D button in the bottom right corner just once. DON'T GET CONFUSED - when you are in 2D mode the 3D button will be visible and vice versa.
  • Make sure your view is aligned to north by clicking on the compass in the bottom right corner just once.
  • Switch to street view (click on the small man icon in the bottom right corner of the screen). This will bring up a series of blue lines (streets you can virtually walk down) and small blue circles (pictures you can view).
  • Now match your screen with 'Map 1' shown below.
  • You can zoom in and out of your screen to find this but be careful if you zoom out too far the blue lines will become too big making it difficult. Tip -to do this quickly on the app use your fingers or on a PC use a mouse scroll wheel.
  • IMPORTANT - you will only see the correct lines & blue circles at the right camera height of between 400 - 500metres. This is how to set the height:

  • Once you have found the location enter into the pictures indicated by the A and the B.
  • Note - once inside A click once on the white arrow at the bottom of the screen heading west (see below - check this by using the compass in the corner of the screen). This will bring you into the correct photo.

  • Answer the questions in step 4 in order.
  • Do this by clicking on the correct blue circle (photo) and allowing time for the picture to load. Once inside the photo scan around 360° and zoom in and out to find the answer. Exit street view mode to change photos (by clicking on the man icon or the arrow in the top left corner).

A - The photograph is in the loch in front of The Highland Club Hotel.

B - The photo is in the grounds to the east of The Highland Club Hotel.

4. From the pictures answer these 2 questions and keep a note of the answer they will help you later.

A. Think of the most famous inhabitant of this loch. Look around for something unusual which could be mistaken for this.

Align your view so you are facing it in the middle of your screen, now if you turn 90° to your right which direction are you facing? (you can work this out by using the compass in the bottom right corner of the screen - the red point always points to north).

Keep note of this - Answer Clue 2 A.

You are looking for the Loch Ness monster which is the strange dark coloured shape close to the shore to the left of the large building, turn 90° to your right of this = west.

B. From this view how many of the 3 separate towers do not have a clock? (count the tower at the back right of the building as one tower).

Keep note of this - Answer Clue 2 B.

The building has 3 towers and only the back right has clocks (the blurry white circles) so the answer is 2.

This building started life in the 18th century as a garrison for which the town is named after. It is now the luxurious Highland Club Hotel.
