Clue 1

Remember this treasure hunt is played using Google Earth and not Google Maps.

1.

To start we will take you to the border of a semi autonomous region in a mystery country. Click here and you will be transported to a photo of this border.

If you are using a internet browser you this will automatically open in Google Earth.

If you are using a phone this will automatically open in the app (if its installed). If it isn't installed this will direct you to do so and once done will automatically open in the app.

2.

What is the name of this semi autonomous region? Use everything available to you on Google Earth and the internet to work out this answer. If you are stuck then follow the tips below.

If you are new to Google Earth this is how to look around photos and the map:

If you are using a PC:

  1. Zoom in and out using the + & - buttons or quickly using the scroll wheel on a mouse.
  2. Move around by clicking down, holding + moving.
  3. Spin your view by holding down shift + moving or by holding down the mouse scroll wheel and moving.

If you are using a touch screen:

  1. Zoom in and out using 2 fingers in a pinching motion.
  2. Move around using a finger.
  3. Spin your view using 2 fingers in a rotating motion.

Tips:

  • Scan around the photo looking for clues (using the methods in numbers 1 & 2).
  • Exit the photo (click on the arrow in the top left corner) and look for the border nearby, represented by a dotted line. The region is on the eastern side of this border and fills the entire peninsula.
  • Scan this area using the aerial view and look for points of interest (using the methods in numbers 1, 2 & 3).
  • Use this points of interest to establish the name of this region.
  • Please note - the name of the region does not appear on the Google Earth map view and some place names when Googled don't reveal the correct regions name.

Use the clues you have picked up from your detective work to help you find the answer on the internet.

3.

Once you have the name of this region look up its flag and answer the following question.

What is the name of the animal on this regions flag? Use this as the password below to access the next clue.
