June 2020 Digital Treasure Hunt Clue 7 Answers

Below are the questions with answers in red. 

 

Clue 7 

1. Insert the number from the password to access this clue into the blank spaces below (in numerical form).

Type this in the Google Earth search bar and hit enter (use capital letters for N & W and keep the spaces).

 

2. 

  • This will move your screen to a new location indicated by a red marker and set it spinning around it - a new box with a map in will also appear.
  • Make a note of the point indicated by the red marker. 
  • Close the map box by clicking the X in the corner.
  • This will automatically set your view to 2D and north, stay like this.
  • Zoom in on this point to a height of 400 metres.
  • Click once onto street view mode - this will bring up a series of blue circles around this point of interest as shown in the picture below.
  • If you cannot see these exact blue circles then zoom in and out until you can.

This photos are just to the east of the temple called Mundo Perdido. 

 

3.

  • Of the 5 species of 'big cats' within the Panthera genus category only one can be found in the northern Guatemalan jungle of the Petén district which completely surrounds this site.
  • Below these 5 big cats have been assigned to a circle each. Which is the only animal which can be found in this jungle?
  • (Tip - see if you can logically work out which one it is but if you need help they try the internet)

  • Check you are in the right photo - the bottom middle should look like this (if it doesn't then re-read the instructions and try again):

    Did you know?
    What about the black panther? - These are of any species of big cat, but most commonly a jaguar or a leopard whose coloration is entirely black. Thus they can also be found in Guatemala. 

    The jaguar is the only one found in these jungles. 

     

    4.

        • To start zoom out and identify the 5 temples in this photo you can see in the jungle (not including the one the photo is taken from).
        • You are only interested in the 4 which are in a line.
        • Below the same photo has been edited to show 8 pieces of information which completely block these 4 temples.
        • Identify which 4 pieces of information are hiding a temple.
        • Make a note of each piece of information in order of left to right and write them as 4A, 4B, 4C and 4D.

        If you are viewing on a mobile you will need to switch your screen to the side.

        • Check your answer below by writing them altogether exactly how they appear above and with a space between each.

        Look closely at the trees and clouds = 700m 2 3 Up

         

        5.

        • Exit the photo.
        • Click into 2D mode and click on your compass once to reset it to north.
        • Now follow these instructions and the 4 pieces of information to direct you to your next location:
        • Zoom out to a height of 4A above the same spot.
        • Imagine this spot as the centre of a clock face with 12 o'clock pointing in the direction of north.
        • Nearby around here are several other temples surrounded by jungle.
        • Scan the area in the direction of 4B o'clock until you reach a cluster of temples.

        Move in the direction of north east.

        • Here look for the grass courtyard shown below:

        • Click onto street view mode and click on the photo indicated below:

          Did you know?
          Look around this photo you will see a mound of grass - this is how the temples looked before they were archaeologically uncovered, there are still parts of the site to be discovered - read about the discovery at the end. 
          • Position your view so you are looking northwards.
          • Click 4C times on the white arrow pointing in the direction of 4D.

          You will now be in a position overlooking several structures at the centre of which is a grass area with some thatched houses which look like this:

          If this is correct move on to the next step if it isn't then repeat step 4 reading the instructions carefully.

          You view should be of a wide open area with a large temple at either end just to the north of the photo you clicked in to start.

           

          6.

          How many levels does the temple directly to your north have (don't include the building on the top)?

          Stay in this photo and use the answer in numerical form to access the next page. 

           

          Did you know?
          Each level represents a level of the underworld in Mayan Culture with each of these levels having a corresponding Lord of the Night. The underworld was the destination of most Maya after death. Heavenly bodies such as the Sun, the Moon, and Venus, were also thought to pass through the Underworld after they disappeared below the horizon every evening.
