Clue 3 Answers
Below are the questions with answers in red.
1.
- Exit street view mode (by clicking on the man icon or arrow in top left corner).
- Click on the compass in the bottom right corner once to bring your screen back to a northern alignment.
Fill in the blanks below with the answer from Clue 2 A.
Go to the most _ _ _ _ ern point of Scotland (this includes the mainland and all the islands).
The St Kilda archipelago is the most western point of Scotland. Located west of the Outer Hebrides.
Soay is the most western island in the archipelago.
2. Look around this archipelago for the remains of an old settlement next to modern buildings located in a bay. Scan around and zoom in and out to find this settlement.
The settlement is in the bay on Hirta island.
3. Once you have found it zoom in to roughly 10,000m / 10km height. Remember the height is shown in the bottom right corner - if you are using an internet browser this is by the word 'camera:' or if you are using the app it is in the very corner.
4. Click on street view and enter the photo which is inside of a clearly defined oval shape in the environment.
Enter the photo within the oval shaped stone wall in the top middle of the settlement.
5. From here follow these instructions:
- Click on the arrow pointing south (the arrows are located at the bottom middle of the screen and compass in the bottom right as shown below - the red point always points to north)
- If you cant see these arrows it will be because you are in Google Maps and not Google Earth, you need to be using Google Earth either using the app or the website.

- Click on the arrow in Google Earth which is pointing east.
- Look around, how many houses are there in the line between the one without a roof and the one with white painted walls?
- Take this number and divide it by the number from Clue 2 B this = X
- Exit street view mode and click on the compass to bring your view back to a northern alignment.
- Zoom out to roughly 20,000m / 20k and imagine the ruined settlement as the centre of a clock.
- Start scanning in the direction X o clock. to the next land mass.
- Stop at the next land mass and look for the location shown below:

This location is directly to the west of Sgarasta Mhor on the Isle of Harris.
6. What geographical feature that is shown in this circle links with the words holiday, weather and towel?
Beach.
Zoom into roughly 10,000m / 10km, scan up the coastline and stop when you find the first named one of these (if you reach Tarbert you've gone too far).
Go to Luskentyre Beach.
