The Discovery of Tutankhamun’s Tomb
On 4 November 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter uncovered a step leading to King Tutankhamun’s long-lost tomb in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings. After years of searching, he finally found the entrance near the tomb of Ramses VI.
On 26 November, Carter and Lord Carnarvon broke the seal and entered the untouched chambers, preserved for 3,245 years. Their careful excavation revealed thousands of treasures, including a stone sarcophagus with three coffins—the innermost made of solid gold and containing the mummy of King Tutankhamun.
